FAQ

What is your therapeutic Approach?

I tend to vacillate between directive and non-directive depending on the client and their goals and amount of insight into their strengths and weaknesses. I certainly do not shy away from speaking up when there is a maladaptive behavior conflicting with stated goals.

Much of my background is that of cognitive-behavioral therapeutic approach. This focuses on how our thoughts create out feelings and how sometimes, for whatever reason, we have developed consistent irrational, unrealistic, or illogical thought patterns that have created challenging emotions.

Mindfulness seems to be the buzz word throughout the psychological world these days, and to that end, I am a very strong proponent of staying present and using mindfulness techniques to calm, focus

What Populations do you see?

Primarily, I see adults or teens (16+). LGBTQ+ friendly and experienced in working through unique challenges. I enjoy working with all genders, all sexual orientations, and mono- and polyamorous individuals. Over the past several years, I have gained an interest in working with Highly-Sensitive Persons (HSPs).

Challenges with mood (depression, bi-polar, dysthymia), anxiety (panic attacks, general anxiety, PTSD, phobias, OCD), psychosis-related disorders (schizophrenia), grief and loss, relationship concerns, adjusting to life transitions, career, and personal development.

I currently am taking Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Regence, Premera, Pacific Source, Aetna, Meritain, First Choice, Moda Health, Lifewise and Self-Pay. I can also take out-of-network clients.

I do not work with children 15 and under. I generally do not do couples counseling either; however, sometimes I will incorporate a partner or spouse into the session if it might benefit the individual’s goals for therapy. Family therapy is also not generally a specialty of mine and I will refer out if family therapy seems to be the most effective modality for treatment.
